Description:

This individual will maximize the organization’s growth and manage the achievement of Produce Department financial, merchandising and
people goals by monitoring and evaluating performance in the Produce Department and implementing plans to achieve objectives.


Key Behaviours:

• Ensures adherence to standards and policies for cold chain compliance, product rotation, sell-by dates, and expiration dates, including identifying and removing produce that is distressed or unacceptable in appearance to ensure quality and freshness.
• Ensures adherence to food safety and handling procedures and follows sanitation and cleaning procedures, including stocking and product rotation.
• Provides quality Customer service by effectively communicating with Customers to answer questions.
• Locates and retrieves merchandise.
• Provides requested assistance concerning prices and product availability of various Produce Department merchandise.
• Communicating effectively with Customers and Associates.
• Effectively resolving Customer concerns involving moving throughout the facility.
• Physically and visually locating merchandise for Customers, involving moving, grasping, reaching overhead and below knee level, bending, and lifting.
• Obtaining and demonstrating knowledge and value of department merchandise.


Position Responsibilities We are looking for someone who has had experience in the following:

Operations:

• Contributes to the achievement of the Produce Department financial goals by monitoring and evaluating performance of the department and implementing plans to achieve objectives.
• Ensures effective communications and responds to Customer questions.
• Locates merchandise.
• Provides requested assistance concerning availability, selection criteria, preparation, and use of produce items, including offering to select product for Customer or retrieve fresh produce from the backroom if available.
• Ensures a safe and clean environment by maintaining safety standards, including the safe handling of produce & performing maintenance.
• Responding to spills.
• Cleaning holding area, produce cooler, displays, and floors as required by department using mops, towels, and appropriate cleaning solutions and methods.
• Monitors area for signs of shrink and potential security risks, including produce products being discarded and not recorded and dating and temperature exceptions, and contacts management and/or In-Store Loss Prevention when problems are identified.
• Completes and maintains required paperwork, such as Inventory Tracking Reports, throwaway record sheets, invoices, and assigned notes.
• Receives produce products by unloading the merchandise from delivery vehicles, moving it to the backroom area through the use of pallet jacks and facility carts, and placing it in holding areas, such as produce coolers.


Merchandising:

• Completes all aspects of Produce Department Store Within A Store (SWAS) planning processes, including attending SWAS meetings to review SWAS Reports for food products ordered and sales information.
• Identifying merchandise needed 30-60-90 days in the future, examining trends and seasonal influences, and planning the ordering of needed side-counter and feature merchandise.
• Maintains accurate and competitive pricing and signage on products by completing price changes visiting competitors and checking competitor prices using the competition scanner, and electronically verifying pricing by scanning UPC codes to ensure the accuracy of signing.
• Ensures in-stock and appropriate inventory levels in the Produce Department by executing all merchandising programs and replenishment procedures.
• Maintains overall appearance of the Produce Department by keeping area fully stocked, properly signed, neat, clean, and organized.
• Ensures Produce Department merchandise is stocked by properly receiving and stocking produce into the backroom.
• Retrieving merchandise from produce cooler.
• Transporting merchandise to sales floor using facility carts.
• Placing merchandise on appropriate racks, shelves, and displays.
• Following Company rotation procedures.
• Taking damaged produce to Claims Department.
• Maintaining quality exceptions.
• Demonstrates and utilizes product knowledge regarding pricing, quality, location where produce was grown, freshness, and use of product by providing accurate and complete suggestions and information to Customers to assist in purchasing decisions.


Qualifications:

• Knowledge of and proficiency with scanning equipment, scales, and hand tools, such as knives and scissors.
• Knowledge of produce products, such as origin, shelf life, selection criteria, uses, freshness, and pricing, as well as product rotation and clean and trim procedures.
• Proven leader of people – able to motivate and develop through honest and open feedback.
