Description:

• Provides quality Customer service by effectively communicating with Customers to answer questions.
• Locates and retrieves merchandise.
• Provides requested assistance concerning the types of merchandise carried, basic and descriptive information, product uses, prices, and the in-stock status of Meat Department merchandise, which involve communicating effectively with Customers and Associates.
• Effectively resolving Customer concerns, involving moving throughout facility.
• physically and visually locating merchandise for Customers, involving moving throughout the facility, grasping, reaching overhead and below knee level, bending, and lifting.
• Obtaining and demonstrating knowledge of Meat Department merchandise.
• Accurately and efficiently stocks merchandise in the Meat Department;
• Sets up product displays, regularly pulling and bringing merchandise forward in displays and side counters; and zones and cleans department.
• Maintaining a safe and clean work environment, including the potential use of chemicals.
• Placing items in their correct locations, requiring reaching overhead and below knee level, bending, twisting, or stooping; reading, understanding, and visually verifying small print in various media.
• Organizing, labeling, and pricing merchandise in accordance with Company guidelines and using fine motor skills to grasp, turn, and manipulate labeling and pricing equipment; while moving within the department over uneven surfaces and moving up and down a ladder, frequently lifting, sorting, carrying, and placing merchandise and supplies of varying sizes weighing up to 50 pounds without assistance and over 50 pounds with team lifting.
• Adhering to food safety and handling procedures and following sanitation and cleaning procedures involving continuous cleaning during the assembly and stocking of merchandise.
• Ability to adapt to and work effectively in various parts of the facility.
• Ability to complete mathematical computations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

• Ability to learn more about merchandise and utilize product information to assist the Customer with purchasing decisions.

• Knowledge of Meat Department merchandise availability, specific cuts, tenderness, freshness, shelf life, and uses, as well as product rotation and safety and sanitation procedures.
• Understanding, effectively following and enforcing all Company policies and procedures, involving food quality assurance, product rotation, expiration dates, quality control, and the use of chemicals to ensure quality and freshness.
• Routinely working in an area requiring exposure to extreme temperatures.
• Accurately communicating, reading, writing, and entering data in various media.


Position Responsibilities:

Operations:

• Ensures effective communication and responds to Customer questions about the Meat Department and provides requested assistance, such as verifying whether a specific meat product is in stock.
• Ensures a safe and clean environment by maintaining safety standards, such as safe handling and packaging of all meat merchandise.
• Performs maintenance and cleaning, including keeping floors free from debris as required by the Meat Department.
• Monitors area for signs of shrink and potential security risks and contacts management and/or In-Store Loss Prevention when problems are identified.
• Receives meat merchandise by unloading from delivery vehicles and moving meat merchandise to the backroom area through the use of pallet jacks and facility carts.


Merchandising:

• Assists in maintaining accurate and competitive pricing and electronically verifying pricing by scanning UPC codes to ensure the accuracy of signing.
• Ensures meat merchandise is stocked by properly receiving and stocking merchandise on racks shelves, and displays, including regularly pulling merchandise from freezers and coolers, bringing merchandise forward, taking damaged goods to Claims Department, and restocking merchandise returned from other areas.
• Demonstrates and utilizes product knowledge about the types of Meat Department merchandise, including providing basic information about the product and product uses.
• Maintains the overall appearance of the Meat Department by keeping merchandise and display cases fully stocked, properly signed, neat, clean, and organized.
• Adheres to standards and policies for cold chain compliance, product storage, product rotation, sell-by dates, and expiration dates, including identifying and removing meat merchandise that is damaged, outdated, or unacceptable in appearance to ensure freshness and quality.

Qualifications:

Skill Requirements:

Merchandising Skills:

• Able to maintain overall appearance of produce department by keeping area fully stocked, properly signed, neat, clean, and organized.
• Ensure in stock and appropriate inventory levels in the produce department by executing all merchandising programs and replenishment procedures.


Decision Making Skills:

• Be able to receive/or refuse produce products by unloading from delivery truck using food safety handling techniques.
• Open communication skills.


Mathematical Skills:

• Ability to add, subtracts, multiply, and divides in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.
• Ability to compute rate, ratio and percent.


Basic Reading/Writing Skills:

• Ability to understand the meaning of written or printed matter and to record information so that others can comprehend.


Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

• Must complete all Wal-Mart Basic and Advanced Training Modules and classes.
