Description:
• Project manager primarily responsible with the coordination of complex, projects that transition technology from CIENA Engineering to Manufacturing.
• These projects typically occur as a part of the New Product Introduction (NPI) process, and can involve any of CIENA’s product divisions.
• Work directly with CIENA Engineering, suppliers, CIENA Sourcing and CIENA product divisions to translate product performance requirements into structured and executable tasks, milestones or processes, leading to the transition to a manufacturable product while meeting program FOA targets.
• Facilitate communication between operational groups within CIENA, often across product divisions, as well as between Engineering, PLM, Program Management, Materials and the suppliers.
• Target and help to develop capabilities and processes within CIENA to meet the supplier’s needs.
• Occasional travel to CIENA product division locations, and supplier sites, either domestically or internationally is required.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Document and communicate project status, obstacles and resolutions to management.
• Represent the NPI team at Integrated Product Team cabinet in managing product releases.
• Accountable for developing and coordinating carefully designed and approved action plans to successfully complete technology transition projects.
• Act as the primary point of contact for all aspects of the NPI activities in full support of Engineering and PLM.
• Assure all parties maintain close communication and coordination regarding project status and milestones.
• Maintain project schedules and report to Program Management during weekly Program Reviews.
• Work with Materials to assure that all long lead items are identified and ordered in a timely manner in support of the project schedules.
• Place orders for prototype through pilot assembly builds and manage costs to within budget.
Skills:
• Strong written and oral communication skills to interface effectively with subordinates, peers and senior management.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask on several projects.
• Ability to listen, persuade and achieve win-win negotiation results with CIENA functional groups.
• Traditional project management skills, such as organizing and planning projects, establishing goals and monitoring performance, assessing risks, and anticipating and efficiently resolving problems.
• Experience at developing and facilitating business processes to achieve project goals.
• Top level understanding of CIENA products, familiarity with CIENA business cycle, TTM product development process, and basic understanding of the flow of materials within CIENA supply chain is a plus.

Education / Experience:
• B.Sc. in engineering, business or equivalent experience is essential.
• At least five (5) years of experience in technology oriented industries.
• PMP Certification is an asset.
• CMMI hands on experience.
• Lean Six Sigma certification is an asset.
• Experience in electronics manufacturing industry in an asset.
• Previous experience in managing hardware development programs.
• Hands on experience in project management, or leading significant business programs.
• Experience in telecommunications/fiber optics industry is strongly desired.
