Description:

• The purpose of this job is to ensure Walmart logistics facilities and transportation network meets Walmart food safety and pest control standards.
• In addition, this position is responsible for leading the PDC Food Quality Control team performing quality control inspections of incoming produce and meat at Walmart’s Perishable Distribution Centres across the country.
• This position will coordinate and enforce Walmart expectations for HACCP certification for logistics facilities, and develop and implement tools and programs designed to mitigate risk of a food safety or pest control issue in the logistics chain – with particular focus on our distribution centres and transportation network.
• This will include performance of regular food safety audits at distribution centres.
• This position will develop and approve meat and produce inspection standards for use by the PDC Quality Control team and related scorecards and metrics for the business.


Position Responsibilities:

• Ensure Walmart logistics facilities and transportation network meet Walmart standards designed to mitigate risk of a food safety or pest control issue.
• Ensure that logistics facilities are audited for food safety and pest control concerns.
• Provide oversight and direction to third party food safety and pest control auditors as it relates to activities in Walmart logistics facilities.
• Ensure that logistics facilities are operating in accordance with HACCP plans to mitigate risk of a food safety issue.
• Lead PDC Food Quality Control team, responsible for inspections of incoming produce and meat at PDC facilities.
• Develop and/or approve, together with food merchants, meat and produce inspection standards for use by PDC Food Quality Control team.
• Develop and implement training program to ensure consistency in QC functions at PDC facilities across the country.
• Develop and implement, together with food merchants, scorecards to demonstrate supplier performance on meat and produce quality received at PDC and communicate with merchants.
• Act as authority to review requests by merchants to waive non-compliance with produce and meat inspection standards, based on specified standards.
• Travel regularly to PDC and warehouse facilities across country – minimum of once per quarter.
• Communicate with the CFIA on food safety standards in PDC, including HACCP recognition of facilities.
• Partner with logistics on design of facilities from food safety/pest control perspective for purposes of obtaining CFIA approval.
• Track changes in federal and provincial laws relevant for food safety requirements re: logistics facilities and transportation networks.
• Deal directly with CFIA inspectors and provincial health regulators on logistics related concerns.
• Participate in industry associations on emerging issues.


Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree.
• Food Sciences related degree.
• 6- 8 years Experience.
• Experience in running a logistics related food safety program on behalf of a major retailer or supplier.
• Experienced in flow of perishable products and distribution centre environment.
• Advanced Food Safety Certifications.
• HACCP certified auditor or equivalent.
• Detailed understanding of Canadian food safety regulations.
• Detailed understanding of perishable distribution network and logistics/transportation related food safety concerns.
• HACCP certified auditor with detailed understanding and familiarity with factory audit process.
