Description:
The Merchant participates in setting prices and promotional strategies for an assigned category and conducts analysis to determine the effectiveness of both.
Accountabilities:
Assortment Planning and Execution:
• Analyze and recommend new items and items to discontinue.
• Conduct post-mortem review of category performance.
• Work with Allocation Analyst on reviewing recommended allocation.
• Work with toolbox and vendors to build planograms.
Promotional Planning and Execution:
• Receive flyer schedule and discuss planned promotional details.
• Select ad items, perform flyer proof and execute ad changes.
• Negotiate costs with vendors for promo items.
• Create forecasts for ad items.
• Recommend promotional pricing for ad items.
• Conduct post ad performance analysis.
• Work with Item Selection Allocation Tool (ISAT) planning team to provide promo planning details.
Pricing Strategy and Management:
• Analyze and determine regular shelf price.
• Review competitive pricing.
• Conduct pricing research to ensure alignment with category strategy, including control brands.
• Perform costing analysis.
• Support negotiations with vendors for in-line business.
• Maintain promotional price at store level to ensure store profitability.
Store Communication:
• Work with Merchandising Operations on store merchandising plans (DMAP).
• Supports participation in BTV segments and develop demo programs.
• Prepare and send out store communications (store training materials, store merchandising standards).
Vendor and Inventory Management:
• Screen and review vendor submissions.
• Conduct vendor meetings to discuss assortment, planning and store visits.
• Review and action on inventory issues.
Job Qualifications:
Role Requirements:
• Post secondary education or equivalent experience.
• 1 to 3 years merchandising experience.
• Proven ability to contribute to category plans in-line with corporate strategies.
• Good communication and great organizational skills.
• Proven Supply Chain, Microstrategy, and analytical experience an asset.
• Solid proficiency with MS Excel - pivot tables, macros and chart building.
